Ideas For Two New Stories Came To Me Yesterday

Yesterday I came up with ideas for two new stories, while I was at work. One of them will be set in the early 1900s (I think the year 1916), on one of the North Frisian Islands (Fohr, I think). It will feature a well-to-do family with a particular focus on the eldest son (18 or 19), his hopes and ambitions, and his liaisons with a few different ladies (and the conflict of interests between him and his father). The other one will take place in the year 1819; it will focus on a group of Burgenschaften (fraternity) members at the height of the Romantic Circle influence in Jena. It will be primarily a political yarn, addressing the issues facing Germany at the time. It will also be an excellent opportunity to exhibit some of the interesting pagan myths that late 18th/early 19th century German scholars were studying (Friedrich Barbarossa, the Nibelungenlied, Walhalla and the myths of Wotan and Hertha). It will be set in the year 1819, because that was the year that (the infamous) Carl Sand murdered the conservative German writer August Kotzebue, and the story will at least touch upon that event. It will also give an opportunity to mention influential writers like Ludwig Jahn, Joseph Goerres and the (cynical) poet Heinrich Heine. Lots of possibilities for these tales... sounds like good mid-winter projects for me to work on early next year.
